If you're a student whose work is to be submitted for assessment, you'll need to ensure that, when you contact me, you're complying with any policy your university or college may have regarding the use of professional editorial services and that, if necessary, you have your supervisor's permission to use such services.
Whether you're writing in English as your first or a second language, I can help you by:
checking and correcting errors and inconsistencies in spelling, grammar and punctuation, but not content;
suggesting where unclear sentences might need to be rewritten to clarify your English (not your argument), and querying any misused words;
suggesting how to shorten long sentences or paragraphs;
checking that section headings as well as those for equations, tables, figures, charts, graphs and appendices are consistent and numbered consecutively;
cross-checking in-text references with tables, figures and charts to ensure they correspond;
cross-checking references and in-text citations;
checking the formatting of footnotes or endnotes;
checking that references are in alphabetical order and that they are consistent in format; and
checking the spelling of references if permitted by your faculty.
Please note that I cannot:
check or amend any facts, statements, calculations, quotations or other academic content of your paper;
re-write any part of your paper or amend its overall word count; or
create a reference list for you or check references against sources.
My rates for proofreading student work depend on the level of editing required and the degree of urgency. To help establish the cost and timescale for working on your document, I will ask you to send me a representative sample of your work.
